Faculty and Teaching Staff:
Have you ever seen a documentary or news report on television and wished you could show it in your classroom?
GTCN can make it happen.
Please note that Academic Support Video Coordination (ASVC) is a GTCN technical service for faculty and staff not to be confused with hands-on academic programs administered through the Learning Assistance Program, the campus-wide
Academic Support Committee, and the Office of Undergraduate Studies.
ASVC will utilize our Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) television system in order to deliver ancillary academic support material to the classroom. An abundance of subject-specific documentaries and intelligently produced programs are available to campus. As a result, GTCN staff can facilitate easy-to-implement, curriculum-specific support by providing content from our broad variety of learning networks including: Discovery Channel, Discovery Times, Discovery Health, Discovery Wings, The Science Channel, TechTV, History Channel, PBS You, NASA, C-SPAN, C-SPAN 2, A&E, Court TV, CoLours TV, World Link TV, and many regional language-specific networks. Your request should focus on the objective top quality news, informational, and documentary programming that coincide with specific preexisting curriculum, or more generally your goals for student understanding.
ASVC is designed to allow faculty and teaching staff to fully utilize the Fair Use Doctrine, an operation of law, which allows educators to show such programming without incurring costly licensing fees under specific restrictions. There are a number of restrictions that may apply to any given request, GTCN will inform you if your request is problematic either regarding legal access or cost. In an effort to expose faculty and teaching staff to this program, the initial three requests per person per academic year will be provided free of charge. Generally, in order to cover operational costs, a $10 fee will be charged per fulfilled request thereafter.
For questions about ASVC, or to inquire about requesting a program, email asvc@gtcn.gatech.edu or fill out the mailform below.
